Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!

We had a White Christmas in Wisconsin...
You wouldn't believe that on 12/14 most of the snow we had received previously melted. So all but a skiff of this came in the last week and a half!!

Chrismas and Candymaking

So this Christmas, we decided not to make the trek out west to see our families... Looking back, I wish we would have in some ways, but not having the hassel of traveling is nice.
However, I decided to make candy for the first time in my life, and have learned some good lessons...
First, make sure your candy thermometer works when attached to the side of the pan (ours for some odd reason only works great when in the middle of the pan - even though it has a pan clip). Second, have a stove that works for candy making... so when you're supposed to reach a certain temperature while cooking on low, but your burner does not let you - its a bad thing (ours likes to turn off when it thinks it is at the right temperature for the setting.) Third, Caramel should never be poured into a pan lined with waxed paper. Fourth, one batch of fudge and another of caramel is too much for 2 people! (This can be really bad when the weather turns ugly with snow and then really chilly weather so you don't feel like leaving your apartment to deliver any to others.)
Merry Christmas everybody!! We hope you enjoy yours wherever you may be.

Snowy night trip to the ER

Monday I started to have abdominal pain and after heading home from work early and taking it easy, it did not go away. I called the OB office and incoherently described what was going on. They said that it was probably not anything serious and to take it easy. When Daniel got home he was more concerned and after carefully describing everything to him he called the OB office back (after hours they have a nurse to answer questions). After describing everything to the nurse, she wanted to talk to me and said I should go to urgent care the following day, until it came out that she thought I was 10 weeks behind where I am (ie 16 weeks instead of 26). Once we straightened that out, she told me that with the abdominal pain I was experiencing I should go to the hospital where I will eventually deliver. So we headed to the hospital. It was starting to get a little snow packed on the roads, but we made it fine.
Once there I was taken to the maternity triage (or rather directed on how to get there, but we somehow got lost and it took us a while longer to get there than it should have...) I was hooked up so they could monitor Baby to see how he was doing. Baby was fine and the pains I was experiencing wasn't pre-term labor so they sent me home after we'd been there about two and a half hours.
Tuesday I stayed home from work and took it easy. I find it really interesting that for me it is hard to not do anything when I would rather be cleaning my apartment instead of staying off my feet even though the abdominal pain was worse when I stood up. I managed pretty well and did take it easy (except for making dinner - which Daniel helped a lot with.)
Today I still have some residual pain, but am doing much better.

Playing Tag

Since baby is active at bed time it is a great time for Daniel to spend some "one on one" time with him. The other night Daniel told Baby that they could play tag, and he put his hand on my belly and lightly pushed in. Baby responded immediatley with an energetic kick, tagging Daniel back. They then spent a few minutes tagging each other back and forth, until I interjected saying it was bed time... Then they complained about how Mom was ruining their fun.
